Pirate’s Treasure Hunt
X marks the spot! The search is on for the long lost candy treasure!
Prep time: 30 min.
Activity time: 45 min.
Difficulty: Easy
What you'll need:
  • 3 bags assorted Mars FUN SIZE® Candies, such as SNICKERS® Brand and STARBURST® Brand Fruit Chews
  • 24 tulle circles, available in craft stores
  • 12 10-inch strands brightly colored purple curling ribbon
  • 12 10-inch strands brightly colored yellow curling ribbon
  • 5 note cards
  • Markers
  • Treasure chest
  • 2 bags M&M’S® Brand FUN SIZE® Peanut or Milk Chocolate Candies
  • Shoebox
  • Gold wrapping paper
  • Tape
  • Plastic necklaces
  • 8 pirate’s eye patches
What to do:
  1. Before the party, wrap 3 Mars FUN SIZE® Candies in each tulle circle. Tie half of the circles closed with the purple ribbon, and the other half with the yellow ribbon.
  2. Choose 4 locations around the house or yard to hide 8 tulle pouches—four of each color ribbon.
  3. Write clues as to how to find each location. Just before the party, hide the pouches along with the clues around the house and/or yard.
  4. When the kids arrive, divide them into two groups, one is the yellow team and one is the purple team. As a team they are instructed to travel as a group, discovering locations and reading clues. The team that finds the treasure chest first is the winner. Both teams gather goodies along the way and share in the pirates treasure in the chest.
  5. Clue examples:
    1. "I’m full of needles, but not prickly. I wiggle with every windstorm. I’m a great hiding place for birds and squirrels." The hiding place...the pine tree!
    2. "You walk right by me on your way in and out of the house. Even though you go in, I stay outside everyday of the year. Rain rolls right off me while sunny day turn me warm. I may be small, but I am too heavy to pick up! So look behind me for your next clue." The hiding place...a big rock by the door!
    3. "I have my own big door. Once inside, I am full of interesting things that are used only for the outside. Bikes, skateboards and skies call me home." The hiding place: the garage.
    4. "I am considered the heart of the home! In this room, your mom makes magic. She collects things and through mixing and combining she creates aromas, warmth and goodies we love." The hiding place: the kitchen!
    5. "I encourage you to relax. I am full of entertaining games and usually have a television. I am where the family gets together to have fun." The hiding place: the Family room!
Tip:
For older kids, write two sets of clues, one in yellow and one in purple. Mix up the clues so both teams are not heading on the same path to finding the treasure chest. For example: Yellow team, pine tree, garage, kitchen, rock, and family room. Purple team: garage, kitchen, rock, pine tree, family room.

To make the treasure chest:
Wrap the outside of a shoebox in gold paper. Fill the box with plastic necklaces, jewels, eye patches, moustaches, and an assortment of M&M’S® Brand FUN SIZE® Peanut or Milk Chocolate Candies.
Makes 1 Treasure Chest.
