- 1 colorful piñata, available at a party or discount store
- Assorted silk or plastic flowers, with the stems removed
- Assorted charms, plastic necklaces and plastic toys
- Bandana or eye mask
- Plastic bat or stick
- What you need for the pinata:
- 4 brightly colored tissue paper
- Scissors
- Double-stick tape
- Marker
- 8 brightly colored lunch-sized paper bags
What to do:
- What to do for the Piñata:
- Fill the opening in the piñata with an assortment of Mars Candies, silk flowers, charms, necklaces and toys. Seal the opening with tissue paper. Set some of the prizes aside, so all of the fiesta bags will be equally filled before taking them home. Hang the piñata outside or in a room with plenty of space, such as a garage, family room or basement. Be sure to hang it low enough so that it's easily reachable by young children.
- When they're ready to play, ask the children to position themselves in a large circle, leaving plenty of safe room for the swinger. One at a time, cover each child's eyes with a bandana. Give them the plastic bat, turn them around, and direct them to where they can start swinging. Remind the other kids to keep their safe space from the swinger.
- Continue letting the children take turns. If the kids are small, you may need to help them break open the sealed opening in the bottom of the piñata.
- When the piñata opens, let the kids gather the prizes. Give each child a decorated fiesta bag to fill up with loot. Place the bags close to the door, and add extra goodies, charms and candy so everyone can go home with a full bag of treats!
- What to do for the Fiesta Bags:
- Cut the tissue paper into strips, each 3 inches wide.
- Snip the tissue strips so they resemble fringe. Place three differently colored strips on top of each other, taping them together. Tape the fringe tissue around the top edges of the paper bags.
- Mark each bag with a child's name!
